In 2023, millions of us tuned in to Google TV to watch our favorite movies and shows. But with so much entertainment out there, maybe you missed some hidden gems or the chance to be part of a pop-culture moment.
Today, we’re launching the Best of 2023 on Google TV devices and in the Google TV app, so we all get one more chance to take a look back at the movies, shows and music that defined the year before we welcome in the next. Here’s a sneak peek at the movies and shows that stood out in 2023:
The days of the year everyone tuned in
We didn’t waste any time kicking off the new year with our favorite movies and shows. The top three most-watched days on Google TV were all Sundays in January, when we traded in cold weather to watch our favorite football team play or catch a new episode of the latest popular series.
The top genres of 2023
For TV shows, the top genre of the year was drama, where series like “Yellowstone” and “Succession” kept us wondering what's next with each episode.
For movies, it was all about the laughs. We looked for comedies we could enjoy with our families, like “Barbie” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.”
The most-watched movies and shows
The most-watched movies of the year include family favorites like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie", "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts", "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse", "Elemental", and "The Little Mermaid (2023)".
The most-watched TV shows featured hit titles that kept us on the edge of our seats like "The Last of Us", "Only Murders in the Building", "Yellowstone", "Ahsoka", and "Poker Face".
The titles we added to our watchlists
With so much entertainment to watch, we had to save some movies and shows for later. Some of the most-watchlisted movies include nostalgic favorites like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which we couldn’t wait to see on the big screen.
